EGU Central Database of Handicaps

The Central Database of Handicaps

Details of the scores and handicaps of every player are held centrally by the English Golf Union. This Central Database of Handicaps (the CDH) is updated whenever a competition entry is completed (home or away).

Every club will be able to access the handicap of every player allowing competition organisers to verify a players latest handicap prior to entering an event. including whether their handicap is Active or Inactive.

Every player has been allocated a CDH Lifetime ID (a 10 digit number). This is the key enabling the transfer of all competition playing records to and from the CDH. It enables club members with access to the Internet to view their details. Additionally it may be requested by competition organisers to ensure that they can correctly identify a player.

Your CDH ID Number

ID numbers for Newbiggin members are held on the Club computer (or at your Home club if you are an Away player). Handicap Certificates now include your CDH Lifetime ID Number so, if you need your number then ask for a Handicap Certificate in he usual way: However if you wait just a little while longer you will be issued with a credit card style  identity card that will serve several purposes.

It will show your 10 digit CDH Lifetime ID and your Club Number. You will need this card to enter your competition score into a new touch screen computer. Your card will be. swiped through the card reader attached to the computer and up will pop your name. At this point you enter the scores for your round via the touch screen terminal. Help will be on hand when it is introduced.

Should a golfer at any time in future transfer to another Club they will retain their CDH ID Number and it and all their playing records will be transferred automatically to their new Club removing a need to supply a handicap certificate to verify their handicap. .

Using the CDH

The first step to view your own details is to register as a New User at the EGU Golf Central website. Click EGU Golf Central to connect, select  "New User?" and follow the instructions.

You will then be able to view your Golfer Profile. One of the choices within that is "My Details". For the moment, although this shows your latest handicap, it is clearly labelled as not being a handicap certificate. There was, however, within the original proposals for this scheme, a suggestion that it would later be possible to print your own handicap certificate - watch this space!

The EGU Golf Central website can also be used without registering your CDH Lifetime ID number to check the details of golf clubs throughout the country. Click EGU Golf Central to connect.
